J85: Abscess of lung and mediastinum

J85.2: Abscess of lung without pneumonia

You need lungs to breath. When we breathe in, oxygen enters the lungs and accumulates in the blood. This blood then flows to the heart. The heart then pumps the oxygen-rich blood throughout the body. All of the organs are supplied with oxygen as a result.

A cavity has formed in your lung tissue. There is pus in this cavity. This can happen for instance when specific pathogens get into the lungs. You may have various symptoms as a result. Typical symptoms are a high temperature, coughing and pain in the ribcage.
