J39.0: Retropharyngeal and parapharyngeal abscess
The throat begins behind the mouth and nose. The throat connects the mouth and nose with the windpipe (trachea) and gullet (oesophagus). The inside wall of the throat is made up of mucous membrane.
In your case, the tissue beneath this mucous membrane has become inflamed. Pus has accumulated in this tissue. You may therefore have a high temperature or difficulty swallowing.
