J38: Diseases of vocal cords and larynx, not elsewhere classified
J38.2: Nodules of vocal cords
The vocal cords are located in the larynx. The vocal cords are important for our speech and breathing. The vocal cords open during inhalation. As a result, air can get into the lungs. When we speak, the vocal cords vibrate. We can thus produce different sounds.
The vocal cords are covered with mucous membrane. In your case, this mucous membrane has thickened in some places. As a result, the vocal cords may no longer vibrate properly. If the vocal cords are thickened, you may be hoarse.
