J30-J39: Other diseases of upper respiratory tract
J30: Vasomotor and allergic rhinitis
Vasomotor and allergic rhinitis are related conditions affecting the nasal passages. Vasomotor rhinitis occurs when blood vessels inside your nose expand (dilate) leading to swelling and congestion. This condition may be triggered by a variety of environmental factors such as changes in weather, spicy food, or environmental pollutants. Allergic rhinitis, on the other hand, is caused by the immune system's response to allergens like pollen, dust mites, or pet dander. Symptoms are often similar for both conditions and may include a runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, and itchy or watery eyes. Both conditions commonly present as chronic, causing disruption in daily activities or sleep, but symptoms can fluctuate in response to triggers. Unlike vasomotor rhinitis, allergic rhinitis may be linked with asthmatic symptoms or conjunctivitis. It's important to note that while these conditions share some characteristics, their causes and triggers can be distinct.
