J09-J18: Influenza and pneumonia

J15: Bacterial pneumonia, not elsewhere classified

Bacterial pneumonia, not elsewhere classified, is a group of conditions that refer to pneumonia caused by different bacteria not specified elsewhere. This particular type of pneumonia engages the small air spaces called alveoli in the lungs, which get filled with bacteria and pus, causing inflammation. The inflammation may occur in one part (lobar pneumonia) or be distributed throughout the lungs (bronchopneumonia). It can spread through inhaling contaminated droplets or by the spread of infection from other parts of the body via the bloodstream. Symptoms typically include a heavy cough often with yellow, green, or bloody mucus, chest discomfort, fever, chills, difficulty in breathing, and fatigue. Severity can vary from mild to severe, and while some people might recover within a few weeks, others may have a life-threatening illness. Lack of adequate treatment can lead to complications such as lung abscess, empyema or sepsis. It's crucial to consult with healthcare providers for diagnosis and appropriate treatment plans.
