I82: Other venous embolism and thrombosis
I82.0: Budd-Chiari syndrome
The liver is an important organ on the top right of the abdomen. For example, it helps with blood clotting and detoxifying the body. Nutrients from food are processed in the liver. The blood from the liver is collected in the hepatic veins. The hepatic veins carry the blood to the heart. Your hepatic veins have narrowed or got blocked. This is usually due to blood clotting. For example, blood clots can form when the blood is no longer able to flow properly in the veins. Some people are prone to blood clots. This is then congenital or caused by another disorder.
If the hepatic veins get blocked, the liver can get damaged. This can then cause abdominal pain.
