I49: Other cardiac arrhythmias
I49.8: Other specified cardiac arrhythmias
The heart pumps blood through the body. Inside the heart are 4 chambers. There are 2 heart atria and 2 ventricles. Both heart atria and both ventricles are separated from each other by a partition. The heart's electrical activity causes the heart muscle to contract. It normally begins at a site in your right atrium. The electrical activity spreads further around the heart via a type of cable.
The electrical activity may not spread in a normal way, or it may begin at a different location in the heart. There may also be extra heart beats. Your heart may then beat irregularly, too quickly or too slowly.
