I10-I15: Hypertensive diseases
I15: Secondary hypertension
Secondary hypertension is a group of conditions that occur as a result of some other existing health problem or disease. Unlike primary hypertension, which doesn't have a clear cause but is often related to genetics and lifestyle, secondary hypertension is the result of specific medical conditions that affect your heart, kidneys, or endocrine system, to name a few. It can arise from conditions such as kidney disease, adrenal gland disorders, certain heart defects, or the use of certain medications. Symptoms of secondary hypertension can include high blood pressure readings, significant increase in blood pressure with no known cause, or blood pressure that does not respond to blood pressure medications. The disease progression varies depending on the underlying condition causing the high blood pressure.
