H70: Mastoiditis and related conditions
H70.1: Chronic mastoiditis
There is a small bony projection on the head behind the ear. It contains small cavities full of air. You can feel this bony projection behind the ear. In your case, this bone is persistently inflamed. One reason for this may be a connecting passageway to another inflamed site in the head. Damage to a tooth may also be the reason for this bone being inflamed. Your hearing might be worse due to the persistent inflammation in this bone. There is usually only mild soreness, and sometimes none at all. You may or may not have a high temperature.
