H68: Eustachian salpingitis and obstruction

H68.1: Obstruction of Eustachian tube

The ear is a sensory organ that is used to hear and to maintain one's balance. There are 3 different areas in the ear: the outer ear, middle ear and inner ear. The middle ear is connected to the throat by a passageway. This allows air to get to the middle ear.

When the passageway connecting the middle ear to the throat is blocked, there may be various symptoms. One might feel an unpleasant pressure in the ear affected. The ear may also be sore. Hearing in the affected ear is usually worse. Fluid may also run out of the ear.
