H60-H62: Diseases of external ear

"Diseases of the external ear" refer to a group of conditions that affect the outer part of the ear, which is composed of the pinna, or the visible part of the ear, and the external auditory canal, which leads to the eardrum. These conditions can arise from a range of causes, including infections, exposure to loud noises, genetic disorders, injuries, allergies, or even the natural aging process. Symptoms can vary widely between conditions, but commonly include ear pain, discharge, itchiness, ringing or buzzing sounds (tinnitus), and sometimes temporary or permanent hearing loss. Conditions in this group can affect both the skin and the underlying cartilage or bone structure of the external ear. Some diseases of the external ear may resolve on their own or with medical treatment, while others can lead to more serious complications if left untreated. Specific diagnoses within this group may reveal more about the cause, presentation, and progression of the disease.
