H33: Retinal detachments and breaks
H33.1: Retinoschisis and retinal cysts
The retina is a layer inside the eye. It contains a lot of sensory cells that can perceive light. There are sensory cells for colors and sensory cells for light and dark. The sensory cells pass the information on to the nerve cells in the optic nerve.
The retina consists of several layers. If these layers get detached from one another, a split or a cavity can form inside the retina. Cavities in the retina can form for other reasons.
If a split or cavity forms in the retina, one’s vision sometimes gets worse. One may also see spots or shadows.
