H10: Conjunctivitis

H10.5: Blepharoconjunctivitis

The transparent conjunctiva covers the eye and the inside of the eyelids. Along with the tears, the conjunctiva forms a liquid film on the eye. Together, the conjunctiva, the eyelids, and the liquid film on the eye all protect the eye from external agents. The conjunctiva also helps defend against pathogens.

An inflammation of the conjunctiva and eyelid can be caused by bacteria, for example, or by foreign bodies in the eye.

The inflammation can cause the conjunctiva and eyelid to become red and swollen. Moreover, the eyes usually get stuck because the eye often excretes more fluid and mucus. If the eye is constantly irritated, it may also water.
