H04: Disorders of lacrimal system
H04.1: Other disorders of lacrimal gland
The lacrimal gland is above the outer corner of the eye. The lacrimal gland produces the tear fluid for the eye. The film of fluid (tear film) on the eye, together with the conjunctiva and the eyelids, protects the eye from external influences.
When your lacrimal gland or the volume of lacrimal fluid undergoes a pathological change, your eye may no longer be adequately moistened by fluid. Your eyes may then feel very dry. Your eyes may then start to itch or sting. A painless swelling may also form on the outside of your upper eyelid.
