H00-H06: Disorders of eyelid, lacrimal system and orbit
H00: Hordeolum and chalazion
Hordeolum and chalazion are two types of lump that can develop on the eyelid due to blockage of oil glands. A hordeolum, commonly known as a stye, can develop on the edge or inside of your eyelid. It is usually caused by a bacterial infection and can result in red, swollen, and painful lumps. The lump often fills with pus and can cause a gritty sensation in the eye, sensitivity to light, or excessive tearing. A chalazion, on the other hand, is a lump that forms farther back on the eyelid as a result of blocked oil glands. Although initially it may resemble a stye, it typically grows more slowly and is less likely to be painful. It might cause blurred vision if it grows large. Both conditions mainly impact the eyelid, can be recurrent, and may resolved on their own but sometimes medical intervention is required.
