The spinal cord is located in the spinal column. The spinal cord is made up of nerve fibers. The brain uses the nerve fibers to exchange information with the organs, skin and muscles.

Damage to the spinal cord can result in various symptoms. For example, the skin in some parts of the body may also feel numb, tingly or sore. Or you may be unable to move your arms or legs properly. You may have difficulties when passing water or emptying your bowels.
