G95: Other diseases of spinal cord
G95.2: Cord compression, unspecified
The spinal cord is located in the spinal column. The spinal cord is made up of nerve fibers. The brain uses the nerve fibers to exchange information with the organs, skin and muscles.
There can be different causes for the spinal cord being compressed. Possible causes are injuries or bleeds, for example. Growing changes in the tissue can also press on the spinal cord.
Depending on which part of the spinal column is being compressed, there can be various symptoms. You may have back pain, for example. The skin in some parts of the body may also feel numb, tingly or sore. You may also no longer be able to move your arms or legs properly. You may have difficulties when passing water or emptying your bowels.
