G80: Cerebral palsy

G80.8: Other cerebral palsy

Many nerves run from the spinal cord and brain to the organs, skin and muscles in the body. To be able to move muscles properly, they need to be controlled by the nerves from the brain.

These types of mobility problems are caused by brain damage. This can occur during pregnancy, during the birth, or in the days after the birth. The brain can get damaged by toxic substances or a lack of oxygen, for example. But there are other possible causes. In a case of brain damage, certain mental capabilities may sometimes not develop properly.
