G70-G73: Diseases of myoneural junction and muscle
G70: Myasthenia gravis and other myoneural disorders
Myasthenia gravis and other myoneural disorders form a group of neurological conditions that primarily affect the junctions where nerves meet muscles, known as the neuromuscular junctions. Myasthenia gravis, a specific condition within this group, is characterized by weakness and rapid fatigue of any muscles under your control, due to a breakdown in the normal communication between nerves and muscles. This isn't a disease that can be transmitted from one person to another. It is usually caused by a problem with the immune system. Common symptoms may include muscle weakness that gets worse with activity and improves with rest, often affecting the muscles that control eye and eyelid movement, facial expression, and swallowing. Disease progression can differ significantly from one person to another, with some experiencing only mild symptoms while others may develop life-threatening complications. Myoneural disorders tend to primarily affect the muscular and nervous systems of the body.
