G56.1: Other lesions of median nerve

This nerve runs the entire length of the arm, from the shoulder to the hand. These nerves enable us to, for example, move our thumb and flex our fingers. The nerve is also responsible for sensation in the thumb, the index finger and the middle finger.

The nerve may be damaged due to injuries or to pressure. The damage may be lasting or temporary.

This nerve in your arm has been damaged. This can cause, for example, pain, tingling or numbness in one’s hand. It may also no longer be possible to move the fingers as well as normal. Then one cannot make a fist any more, for example.
