G51.2: Melkersson syndrome
The disorder probably involves various tissues in your head becoming inflamed. This can make certain areas swell up.
The disorder sometimes causes several symptoms all at once. For example, one’s lips may swell up repeatedly over a long period of time. A nerve is sometimes compressed by a swelling. If the nerve is compressed, facial muscles can become paralyzed, or one may no longer be able to taste properly, for example. The tongue may also appear wrinkled.
The precise cause of this disorder is unknown.
