F50.2: Bulimia nervosa
Bulimia involves binge eating. During binges, you are unable to control your eating behavior. Over a short time you then consume too much food, some of which is also high in energy.
After the binges you are very anxious that you will put on weight. So you do things in order not to put on weight. You may vomit, intentionally and repeatedly. You may also avoid food for a while. You might also try to lose weight by using laxatives, for example.
With bulimia you are very preoccupied with the subject of eating and your own body weight. You may have a false perception of your own physique.
Bulimia can cause various physical symptoms. The mucous membrane in the esophagus or mouth can become inflamed. There may also be an insufficient amount of certain minerals in the blood.
