You feel a compulsion to do things over and over again, even when you do not want to. A person may feel driven to wash or clean things. If the person fails to perform the compulsive action, they are extremely tense or they get anxious.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder is a mental illness. Obsessive-compulsive disorder is where a person thinks or does things compulsively over and over again. These thoughts or actions cannot be avoided. They can be unpleasant and appear nonsensical.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder can affect what a person thinks and does, and how they act with other people. This condition has a range of different physical and mental causes.
