F38.0: Other single mood [affective] disorders

Other single mood disorders, also referred to as affective disorders, describe a category of mental health conditions characterized primarily by abnormalities in mood or emotion. Normally, there's a single predominant mood disturbance present, such as severe depression or mood swings, that doesn't meet the criteria for a specific mood disorder like depression or bipolar disorder. Symptoms might include persistent feelings of sadness, happiness, anxiety, or emptiness, with a possible reduction or increase in appetite and sleep patterns. This condition can also cause a loss of interest in everyday activities and difficulty focusing. It can negatively impact daily functioning, including school, work, or social relationships. These mood disturbances may arise from a complex interplay of biological, psychological, and social factors, and they often vary significantly among different individuals.
