F10-F19: Mental and behavioural disorders due to psychoactive substance use

F16: Mental and behavioural disorders due to use of hallucinogens

Mental and behavioural disorders due to use of hallucinogens involve a range of conditions arising from the consumption of hallucinogenic substances such as LSD, magic mushrooms, or peyote among others. These hallucinogens affect the mind and behaviour by creating distortions of reality, and can lead to altered thoughts, feelings, and perceptions. On ingestion, early signs could include hallucinations, delusions, mood swings, and confusion. Over time, individuals may experience chronic psychological effects, where these distorted perceptions become an ongoing issue even without continued use of the hallucinogen. This can lead to distress and impaired function in social, occupational, and other important areas of functioning. These disorders are not directly transmitted from person to person but occur due to the individual's prolonged use and dependence on hallucinogenic substances.
