E83: Disorders of mineral metabolism
E83.1: Disorders of iron metabolism
Iron is important for many processes in the body. For example, iron is contained in the red blood pigment. The red blood pigment transports oxygen in the body.
You cannot utilize iron properly. This can be caused by other diseases or alternatively be congenital. You usually have too much iron in your body. If there is too much iron in the body, it may be deposited in the tissue. For example, iron can be deposited in the liver, pancreas or skin. Iron can damage the tissue. For example, the liver may then no longer function properly. If the pancreas is damaged, you may get diabetes.
