E67.0: Hypervitaminosis A

Vitamins are substances the body needs for many tasks. The body is unable produce most vitamins by itself. These vitamins must be taken in through food. Vitamin A is important for night vision, the skin and reproduction.

Vitamin A is contained in fish oil, egg yolk and dairy products, among other things. It is also possible to take vitamin A as a food supplement. If you absorb too much vitamin A, various symptoms may develop. For example, you may have headaches and nausea or little appetite. Vitamin A can also accumulate in your body if you ingest a lot of it for a considerable time. Your skin and mucous membranes may then be dry or your hair may fall out. Changes to the bones can also develop due to too much vitamin A in the body.
