E40-E46: Malnutrition

Malnutrition is a group of conditions that occur when the body does not get the right amount of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients needed to maintain healthy tissues and organ function. These conditions can be caused by a lack of intake or absorption of nutrition from food, or from the body's inability to process the nutrients effectively. It can also be due to an imbalance between nutrient intake and the body's needs for growth and repair. Symptoms often include fatigue, dizziness, and weight loss. Over time, malnutrition can lead to a slower immune response, weakening the body's ability to fight off illness and infection. It can also lead to muscle weakness, trouble breathing, and heart problems. These conditions are not transmitted from person to person; rather, they are a result of individual health and dietary practices.
