E34: Other endocrine disorders
E34.1: Other hypersecretion of intestinal hormones
Various organs help with food digestion. First of all the food is broken down into smaller pieces in the mouth. The food is then further broken down in the stomach and intestine. In the process, various digestive juices help break down the food into its individual elements. Digestive juices are produced in the stomach, pancreas and liver, for example. Finally, the individual elements are absorbed into the blood in the intestine.
Various messengers control digestion. There are various conditions that involve over-production of certain messengers. Depending on the condition, various symptoms may result. When certain messengers in the intestine are affected, the result may be severe diarrhea.
