E30.1: Precocious puberty
Puberty is the time in which the body develops from a child’s to an adult’s. In the case of this disease, puberty means physical development. Many messenger substances and sex hormones play a role in puberty. In puberty, you become sexually mature. There are many changes in your body as a result. For example, your body structure changes. Fat distribution in the body thus changes as well.
If puberty begins in boys before their 9th birthday or in girls before their 8th birthday, it is too early. For girls, puberty also starts too early if they have their 1st period before their 9th birthday. There are various signs that puberty is starting. They include for instance starting to grow and getting bigger. Furthermore, you develop a sweaty smell. The pubic hair and underarm hair begin to grow. For girls, the breasts start to grow and for boys, the testicles grow.
