E28.1: Ovarian dysfunction: Androgen excess
There are two ovaries in the body. The ovaries are influenced by regulating messenger substances from the brain. The ovaries themselves create various sex hormones. These include female and male sex hormones. The sex hormones affect the female cycle, fat distribution in the body, skin and hairiness, for example.
Your ovaries are creating too many of what are commonly called male sex hormones. These hormones are called androgens. Too many such hormones can change the female cycle, make it occur less often or cause it to disappear. It is also possible for instance that body hair will increase or the hair on the head will fall out.
