E26.9: Hyperaldosteronism, unspecified
The adrenal glands are at the top of the kidneys. Adrenal glands produce various messenger substances. One messenger substance is called aldosterone and controls the amount of sodium in the blood. Sodium helps regulate the moisture content in the body.
Your adrenal glands are producing too much of the hormone aldosterone. This can happen, for instance, when the tissue in the adrenal gland is multiplying. That can also occur if there is too little fluid in the blood.
The sodium content in the blood is increased by the hormone aldosterone. If the sodium content in the blood increases, the amount of fluid in the blood also goes up. As a result, the heart has to pump more often and more vigorously. That can lead to high blood pressure.
