E14: Unspecified diabetes mellitus
E14.9: Unspecified diabetes mellitus without complications
Unspecified diabetes mellitus without complications refers to a medical condition where the body has an abnormal regulation of blood sugar levels, but it does not show any related complications. This disease occurs when the body doesn't produce enough insulin or can't effectively use the insulin it does produce, which leads to higher levels of glucose in the blood. It's referred to as 'unspecified' as it does not fit neatly into the usual types of diabetes (Type 1, Type 2, or gestational diabetes). People with this condition may experience common symptoms of diabetes such as increased thirst and urination, extreme hunger, unexplained weight loss, and fatigue. However, without any resulting complications, this form of diabetes does not lead to problems usually associated with more defined diabetic conditions, like heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, eye problems and nerve damages. This classification is typically used in situations where a detailed diagnosis has yet to be established.
