E07: Other disorders of thyroid
E07.1: Dyshormogenetic goitre
The thyroid is a small organ at the bottom of the neck. The thyroid gland needs iodine to produce important messenger substances (hormones) for the body. These messenger substances influence the heartbeat, digestion, and body temperature, among other things. In the body, certain proteins ensure that processes run better or more quickly. These proteins are also known as enzymes. An enzyme in your thyroid gland is not working properly. Your thyroid gland is thus producing insufficient messenger substances. Your body has tried to compensate for the missing thyroid gland messenger substances with thyroid tissue. As a result, your thyroid gland has become enlarged.
If you have insufficient thyroid gland messenger substances in your body, you may have typical symptoms. For example, you may be slower or not be able to think as clearly. You may also have dry skin or constipation.
