D60-D64: Aplastic and other anaemias
D61: Other aplastic anaemias
The group of conditions known as Other Aplastic Anaemias is characterized by the failure of the bone marrow to produce adequate numbers of blood cells. This can include red blood cells which carry oxygen, white blood cells which fight infection, or platelets which help with clotting. These conditions can occur due to various causes such as exposure to certain chemicals or radiation, viral infections, genetic disorders, or they can be idiopathic, meaning the cause remains unknown. Symptoms often include fatigue, shortness of breath, frequent infections, and easy bruising or bleeding. As the disease progresses, complications can arise from the lack of sufficient numbers of blood cells, affecting multiple body systems and often leading to serious health issues, such as anemia, infection, or excess bleeding.
