When there is abnormal growth of tissue, then this is also referred to as a tumor. The tissue in the body is made up of cells. A tumor disorder involves the cells multiplying more than normal. This results in abnormal or excess tissue forming. A tumor can be benign or malignant. The tumor you have is benign. Benign tumors do not destroy the healthy tissue and do not spread throughout the body.
The salivary glands produce saliva and transport it to the mouth. In all, there are 6 large salivary glands. The two parotid glands are located in front of the left and right ear. The two submandibular glands are located to the left and right at the back of the lower jaw. The two sublingual glands are located to the left and right beneath the tongue. You have abnormal growth of tissue in the parotid gland.
