C91.8: Mature B-cell leukaemia Burkitt-type
Mature B-cell Leukaemia Burkitt-type is a rare, fast-growing form of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system. This condition typically originates in the immune cells known as B-cells, and it's particularly common among children. The exact cause of this type of leukemia is unknown but it's linked to Epstein-Barr virus infection in some cases. The disease often affects the lymph nodes, spleen, and sometimes areas outside the lymphatic system, such as the central nervous system. Common symptoms include night sweats, weight loss, fever, and swollen lymph nodes in the neck, underarms, or groin. As fast as this cancer grows, it responds well to intensive chemotherapy.
