C90: Multiple myeloma and malignant plasma cell neoplasms
C90.3: Solitary plasmacytoma
Solitary plasmacytoma is a rare type of cancer that develops in the plasma cells, a type of white blood cell made in the bone marrow. Unlike multiple myeloma, which affects many bone marrow sites in your body, solitary plasmacytoma is characterized by a single abnormal growth, or tumor. This tumor often forms in the bones but can also develop in other tissues, such as the lungs. Initial signs of this condition may include pain in the affected area and potential fractures if the bone is involved. As the disease progresses, additional symptoms related to the tumor's location might surface. Despite its isolated nature, many individuals with solitary plasmacytoma may eventually develop multiple myeloma, another type of plasma cell cancer that affects various sites in the body.
