C45: Mesothelioma

C45.1: Mesothelioma of peritoneum

The tissue in the body is made up of cells. With cancer, the cells multiply uncontrollably, which leads to a malignant neoplasm (abnormal growth of tissue) developing. The cancer cells can destroy the healthy tissue and spread throughout the body.

In your case, the cancer starts from a membrane surrounding the intestines. The abdominal organs are located in the abdominal cavity. The inside of the abdominal cavity is covered by a thin membrane. This thin membrane also surrounds all the organs in the abdomen. The organs can move against each other thanks to this thin membrane. This thin membrane helps the organs to glide past each other better.
