C00-C14: Malignant neoplasms of lip, oral cavity and pharynx

C10: Malignant neoplasm of oropharynx

Malignant neoplasm of the oropharynx refers to cancer that develops in the oropharynx, the middle part of the throat that includes the base of the tongue, tonsils, the soft palate (back of the mouth), and the walls of the pharynx. This cancer can occur due to uncontrolled growth and multiplication of abnormal cells. Common risk factors include tobacco use, heavy alcohol consumption, and infection with certain types of human papillomavirus (HPV). Symptoms often include a sore throat that doesn't go away, difficulty swallowing, weight loss, ear pain, or a lump in the neck. Malignant neoplasm of the oropharynx can spread (metastasize) to other parts of the body if left untreated. This is a serious condition that requires medical attention once symptoms present themselves.
