B83.4: Internal hirudiniasis
Leeches are parasites. Parasites are small creatures that, at least for periods of time, live off other creatures. In humans they can cause illnesses. Leeches occur both in water and on land. You can be bitten by leeches while swimming, for example.
You have been bitten internally by leeches. Leeches can infect the mucous membrane in the mouth, throat or esophagus, for example. When you have leeches in internal mucous membranes, you may have a cough or breathing difficulties. The affected site may swell up severely. You may also experience bleeding. You may also have to vomit.
