B47.1: Actinomycetoma
Certain bacteria can cause this infection. The illness occurs near to the equator in Africa, Latin America and Asia. The pathogens can get into the skin via small wounds. This typically happens via the feet or lower legs of people who are barefoot.
First of all a papule or blister forms in the skin. Over time the infection spreads over the affected limb. The papules contain pus and small grains. Passageways can develop in the skin via which the pus can be secreted. The limb can swell severely over time.
