B39.5: Histoplasmosis duboisii
Histoplasmosis is caused by fungi. They occur in Africa. Fungi produce resistant spores in order to propagate. Drafts can spread the spores around the environment. The fungal spores may occur in the dust in bat caves, old chicken coops or pigeon’s nesting places. You can become ill through inhaling the fungal spores with the dust.
Histoplasmosis can give you fever, a cough and chest pains. The fungi can also cause joint pain and changes to the skin. You may lose your appetite.
The illness may also cause symptoms over a long period of time. Changes may also occur to bone.
