B38.4: Coccidioidomycosis meningitis
In America these fungi occur in the ground in dry regions. You can become infected by breathing in dust that contains germs. Sandstorms, in particular, increase this risk.
The linings of your brain have been inflamed by the fungal condition. On the outside of the brain and spinal cord there are three thin meninges (linings). A tough meninx, the dura mater, is on the outside. Below that are two soft meninges. When the linings of your brain are inflamed, you can have a high temperature and bad headaches. You can find it difficult to tolerate bright light or loud noise. It is possible that you will have to vomit. Seizures are also possible or you may lose consciousness.
