B33: Other viral diseases, not elsewhere classified
B33.0: Epidemic myalgia
There are various kinds of viruses. You have been infected by so-called coxsackieviruses. Coxsackieviruses spread from person to person through shaking hands, for example. They can also be transmitted via objects that a sick person has handled.
These viruses can inflame the smooth membrane around the lungs, for example. The lungs are surrounded by a smooth membrane. A smooth membrane like this is also located inside the ribs. Both membranes cling to each other via a small amount of fluid.
A fever is common with the illness. You also often have sharp pains in the chest or in the upper abdomen. The pain gets worse when you breathe in or cough. You may also have pain in certain muscles or your head. The viruses sometimes cause serious illness.
