B05.1: Measles complicated by meningitis
Measles are caused by viruses. With the measles, red and slightly raised spots form all over the body. You can cough, sneeze and have a sore throat. You may also get a high fever. Your eyes may sometimes be red and watery.
Your meninges have been inflamed by measles. On the outside of the brain and spinal cord there are three thin meninges (linings). A tough meninx, the dura mater, is on the outside. Below that are two soft meninges. When the meninges are inflamed, this can cause various symptoms. It is also possible to get a high fever and feel very sick. Severe headaches and a stiff neck are common. You may find it difficult to tolerate bright light and loud noises. Sometimes you may also feel nauseated and feel like you have to vomit. Seizures are also possible or you may lose consciousness.
