A79.0: Trench fever

Trench fever is also known as five-day fever. The condition is caused by bacteria. The bacteria occur in lice. You can become infected if the feces from infected lice get into a skin wound or one's eye.

Trench fever can cause a high fever and headaches. The fever may relent after a few days, then reoccur later. Soreness may occur in the shinbones and back. You may get spots or papule-type changes to your skin for a while. Your heart may also become inflamed. The infection may also cause symptoms again after a long time.
