A67: Pinta [carate]

A67.3: Mixed lesions of pinta

The bacteria occur in Central America and South America especially. The disease is also called pinta.

With the skin disease, you normally have a reddish lump on the skin at first that becomes larger over time and gets scaly. Later on, the lymph nodes can also swell up and you may feel weak and sick. The lymph nodes are small bean-shaped objects. They are found throughout the body. Lymph nodes filter the tissue fluid. They are part of the defense system. Sometimes you will also have a fever.

Other lumps and skin changes can also form later. Such skin changes can then also be whitish or black-gray. The skin at these sites is usually somewhat harder and becomes scaly. If the disease is present for longer, the hair may fall out in certain places. Sometimes scars may also form in the skin.
