A66: Yaws

A66.1: Multiple papillomata and wet crab yaws

Yaws is caused by bacteria. You can get infected through skin contact with an infected person. The disease occurs in tropical countries.

A single pustule or a weeping lesion can initially form on the skin at the point of contact. After some months, pustules or weeping lesions can repeatedly occur everywhere on the body. Soft, thickened areas can also form, for example on the skin of the palms of one’s hands or soles of one’s feet. Painful lesions can also develop at these locations. During the course of the disease, other changes may occur to the skin, bones or joints.
