A30-A49: Other bacterial diseases

A43: Nocardiosis

Nocardiosis is an infection caused by the bacteria Nocardia, which are present in soil and water around the world. People generally get infected by inhaling the bacteria or through injuries that have come in direct contact with contaminated soil. Many cases occur in people with weakened immune systems but it can also affect healthy people. The common symptoms include coughing, chest pain, shortness of breath, fever, night sweats, weight loss, and sometimes skin sores. The disease primarily attacks the lungs but can spread to other parts of the body such as the brain or skin, leading to more severe symptoms. The progression of nocardiosis can be gradual or rapid, often depending on the person's immune system and the extent of the infection.
